Game Night
As the temperatures continue to fall and winter settles in, in home entertaining is a great way to battle winter blues. At my home “Goodall Game Night” occurs once a month and is a fun, friendly and sometimes competitive evening filled with laughter and good cheer. With this type of entertaining in mind, Wet or Dry, a “bar” or secondary entertaining space remains popular in today’s home design.
The most popular components to the bar are a small under counter beverage center. Some people opt for a secondary wine cooler that’s temperature adjustments are specific to wine vs. beer or soda. And with the popularity of microbrew continuing to rise, Kegerators are making their way on the scene. Depending on its proximity to the kitchen, a sink may be added for rinsing glassware and for cleaning.
Ice makers are popular if cocktails are being served, but be warned they should not be installed if next to an entertainment or TV watching area. The pump in the ice maker that allows the unit to produce clear ice can be noisy.
Glass door cabinetry or open shelving for liquor bottles and glassware is the popular approach for above the counter. Adding some sparkle with mirror, glass tile or a unique backsplash detail can create a nice contrast.
Having some fun with personalized signage can also be a great way to set a party mood. Raised bar seating is always a must. Having a wood bar top with an arm rest and a brass foot rail will make your space feel like your favorite tavern. Great bar stools that swivel and have broad seats keep your guest comfortable while you serve up beverages.
So pull out the deck of cards, Jenga or whatever game you choose, make some fun snacks, and invite some friends to wander out into the cold for “Game Night” at your home.
